GRPD: Officers involved in shooting on Thursday

GRAND RAPID, Mich. -- Grand Rapids Police say officers were involved in a shooting on Thursday afternoon.

The incident happened near Broadway Avenue and 4th Street around 5:30 p.m. Grand Rapids Police Chief Eric Winstrom says they received a 911 call about a domestic incident involving an individual with a knife.

Four officers arrived on the scene. Winstrom says their preliminary investigation shows the individual charged at the officers and two officers deployed their tasers. The individual continued and two officers fired multiple shots.

The suspect was taken to the hospital and is in serious condition. Their name has not been released at this time.

Michigan State Police is investigating the incident. Two officers were placed on administrative leave while the shooting is investigated. That is department procedure.
