Update from South Christian social media post:
South Christian family,
I am writing with deeply sad news that our friend, colleague, coach, and teacher Mark VanStee passed away this morning. It is difficult to put together any coherent thoughts or words at this moment. Please pray for Mark’s wife and kids, his friends, his colleagues, his students, and our school community.
All school activities today (8/19) are postponed, and there will be no school tomorrow, August 20. We will send another communication as soon as there are further details.
Grace and Peace,
Aaron Meckes
Head of School

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- The Grand Rapids Police say a man was killed this morning in a single-vehicle accident on private property. It happened in the 2500 block of Annchester Drive, which is west of Breton Road and north of 28th Street.
The man was found pinned between the vehicle and a tree. GRPD Sergeant Justin Ewald says it appears that the victim had gotten out of his vehicle, and it started to roll. He tried to stop it, and that is how he got pinned up against the tree.
The man's name, age and time of the accident were not available at the time of this report.
The GRPD issued this statement:
“Based on witness statements and our preliminary investigation, the victim had gotten out of the vehicle, and it began to roll. He was attempting to stop the vehicle when he became pinned,” said Sgt. Justin Ewald, the Traffic Unit supervisor. “This was a tragic accident. On behalf of GRPD, we extend our condolences to the family and loved ones of the victim.”
