State awarding funds for affordable housing project in Muskegon

MUSKGON, Mich. -- The state of Michigan is awarding a $850,000 grant to help prepare a vacant plot of land for a new housing project in Muskegon.

The Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy is awarding the Brownfield Redevelopment Grant to a project that will bring 46 affordable housing units to 122 West Muskegon Ave. near Terrace Street.

The property was previously a McDonald's however it has sat vacant since 2016.

The development is expected to be completed in the spring of 2026.
