Lowell Township voters to decide on spongy moth millage

Lowell Township is asking residents to consider a millage that would cover spongy moth treatments.

Spongy moths are invasive and eat the leaves of trees and shrubs.

Officials say without the treatments, the township's tree canopy could suffer.

The millage will be on the November ballot.

Officials are proposing a millage of 0.5 mills for three years. The average homeowner would pay $50 a year.
