Allegan County district judge announced retirement

Allegan County's 57th District Court Judge is set to retire.

After 18 years of service, Judge William Baillargeon is scheduled to retire from the court effects Aug. 1. Governer Gretchen Whitmer will then appoint his replacement.

Baillargeon began his judicial career back in 2007 when he was appointed by Governer Jennifer Granholm and was sworn in as a judge for the 48th Circuit Court in Allegan County.

He founded the first adult drug treatment court, the Sobriety treatment court and the West Michigan Regional Veterans Treatment Court. In a release, it says Judge Baillargeon continues to be an advocate for remote proceedings, and increased access to justice for the people of Allegan County and the State of Michigan.
