KDPS: Violent crime decreased in 2024

The Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety is releasing a report that shows violent crime dropped nearly 13 percent between 2023 and 2024.

KDPS Chief David Boysen says reducing gun violence has been a critical focus for them and he is proud to report progress in that area.

The report shows homicide decreased by almost 55 percent, confirmed shots fired decreased by 49 percent, assault with a firearm decreased by 16 percent and aggravated assault decreased by almost one percent.

The report also shows fire calls increased by 79 percent in the same time period.
