Muskegon Township leaders are hoping the community approves a proposed millage next month that will help fund the police and fire departments.
The long-standing millage of 2.6802 expired this year and officials are proposing a millage of 5.25.
Fire Chief Matt Ambrose says his crews are often working with staffing well below the numbers recommended by the National Fire Prevention Association.
Officials say if the millage doesn't pass, operations that rely on the funds could be impacted.
The millage is up for a vote on May 6.
