MI AG warns 23andMe customers to consider deleting accounts

Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel is telling 23andMe users they should consider deleting their accounts.

In a press release on Wednesday, Nessel says users should consider the risks to their personal data after the company filed bankruptcy.

"23andMe collects and stores some of the most sensitive personal information, our genetic code," Nessel says. "With the company now in bankruptcy, customers should be aware of the potential risks and consider deleting their accounts to protect their data."

The company collects and analyzes genetic code information to provide its customers with ancestry, probable genetic health risks and other personalized reports.

Consumers can delete their account and personal information by following the information on the company's website.
