Former UM football quarterbacks coach facing identity theft charges

A former University of Michigan football coach is facing criminal charges for alleged identity theft.

The U.S. Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of Michigan is announcing 24 charges against Matthew Weiss.

Weiss worked as the co-offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach for Michigan until he was fired in January 2023 after the federal investigation began.

Officials say Weiss accessed a student athlete database of more than 100 colleges and universities and downloaded personal and medical data for over 150,000 athletes.
