Governor Whitmer signs paid sick leave, minimum wage bills into law

Governor Gretchen Whitmer has signed two bills into law that change the paid sick time rules and the state's minimum wage law.

The Senate approved the bills on Thursday evening.

House Bill 4002 gives workers an hours of sick time for every 30 hours on the job. Employees at large businesses will receive 72 hours of sick time. Employees at small businesses, those with less than 10 employees, will get 40 hours of sick time.

Senate Bill 8 raises the minimum wage to $15 an hour by 2027. The tipped minimum wage will be 38 percent of the standard and will rise by two percent each year until it reaches 50 percent of the standard.
