The Gerald R. Ford International Airport is the first in the state to offer a sensory room to help travelers with sensory disorders.
Disability advocate Jon Cauchi says getting on a plane can be a new or rare experience for many people and having a space where people can calm their anxieties before hand is amazing.
The room has three zones for travelers to use.
A respite zone has space for people to calm down and relax.
An active zone is available for passengers to prepare their sense of sight and touch for air travel.
The airplane simulation zone helps to familiarize individuals with the boarding process and all it entails.
