Man sentenced for involvement in over 800K Meijer scheme

A Kent County Circuit judge has sentenced 31-year-old Travis Gale to three to 20 years in prison for scamming Meijer out of thousands of dollars. Investigators say it was part of an organized retail crime scheme involving several people that were either related, married or known associates of one another in some way.

The grocery retailer discovered losses of over $800,000 in 2022 due to counterfeit bar codes that were being used on coupons. WOOD TV reports court records show the scheme had been going on for at least four years.

Detectives say they retrieved MasterCard and Visa gift cards that were fraudulently obtained from Meijer when they raided Gale's home.
