Crews have broken ground on the first new fire station in Grand Rapids in 37 years.
A ceremonial groundbreaking was held at the site of the future Kendall Street Fire Station on Tuesday.
GR Fire Chief Brad Brown says the project has been a decade in the making after a lagging response time in the city's Third Ward was identified.
The $8.1 million fire station is being paid for by state grants.
Construction is expected to be complete by fall 2025.
