Crews have wrapped up the mussel relocation project in the Grand River ahead of schedule.
Before the restore the rapids project could move forward, regulators determined the Grand Rapids Whitewater needed to collect and relocate mussels in the river.
Dive teams searched an area roughly the size of eight football fields over the last several weeks and have now removed all the mussels.
The city says the dry weather and low-flow of the river helped the project to go faster than anticipated.
