"Possible threat" closes Byron Center schools Monday

BYRON TOWNSHIP (WOOD-AM) - Byron Center Public Schools is closed today due to a "possible threat."

The district's superintendent says the district was notified of a threat against West Middle School or Byron Center High School and is now working with the Kent County Sheriff's Office to assess its credibility.

"For the safety of the entire BCPS community the whole district will be closed on Monday," Kevin Macina said in a letter to parents and guardians. "As we gather relevant information we will keep you updated."

Byron Center's early childhood education center is also closed.

An online threat was also made against East Kentwood High School, but that school will stay open.
