Federal court to take former MSP sergeant's case

A judge has decided that a former Michigan State Police sergeant's case will be moved to federal court.

Former MSP sergeant Brian Keely is charged with second-degree murder and involuntary manslaughter in the death of 25-year-old Samuel Sterling.

The defense argued the case should be moved to federal court as the sergeant was working as part of the U.S. Marshals task force.

Prosecutors had argued Keely was not a federal agent and the case belonged at the state level.
