Private schools are now calling on the state to expand the universal free lunch program to include their students within the program.
While schools like Grand Rapids Christian have programs in place to help families who cannot pay, they still have to make the district aware that they need assistance.
By being a part of the universal program, it would help with nutrition and learning, as well as get rid of the stigma that can accompany families faced having to ask for help.
