Man's criminal case dismissed after getting shot, killed

A man charged with killing a motorcyclist in Grand Rapids last summer was fatally shot in Wisconsin, causing his former criminal case to be dismissed.

19-year-old Peter Mathiang had a hearing scheduled this week in Kent County Circuit Court on a felony charge of reckless driving causing death, after allegedly striking a motorcyclist on the city's southwest side before fleeing. Police say the motorcyclist, 21-year-old Jared Gossage, of Wyoming, died on scene.

However, his case was promptly dismissed after finding out Mathiang was gunned down on July 2nd in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. A news report from Wisconsin indicated that Mathiang was there visiting relatives when he was shot.
