Local fire departments are joining statewide efforts to require automatic sprinklers in new homes.
The National Fire Sprinkler Association and the Caledonia Township Fire Department held a demonstration on Tuesday afternoon that demonstrated the effectiveness of sprinklers at putting out fires.
State fire marshal Kevin Sehlmeyer says 62 people in the state have died in a residential house fire this year so far.
Home builders have pushed back against any changes to building code requiring sprinklers saying the cost involved would raise home prices.
