MI SOS: Young voter education still needed in the state

Michigan is expected to be a key swing state in the November presidential election however a new state report shows turnout among young voters could be a deciding factor.

Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson released a report showing the disparity between active registered young voters and election turnout. In the 2022 midterm elections, Michigan led the nation in voter turnout rate for citizens ages 18-29.

But almost 60 percent of active registered voters chose to not cast a ballot from that age group during that election.

Benson says it is important that all residents who are legally able to vote understand how important their ballot is.
