KALAMAZOO (WOOD-AM) - Attorney General Dana Nessel has released a report on allegations of sexual abuse of minors and adults by priests in the Diocese of Kalamazoo.
Bishop Edward Lohse said, of the 19 priests named, 12 have died. The other seven are out of active ministry.
He said the report "is a historic reality" and says it's "tragic, appalling and inexcusable."
"We cannot be afraid of the truth," Lohse said. "The ugliness detailed in the Attorney General's report is not the whole of who we are - but it is a part and we must acknowledge that fact and own it so that it does not happen again."
Nessel said the diocese cooperated with her office.
