MDHHS: MI farmworker had avian flu

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services says a Michigan farmworker contracted highly pathogenic avian influenza.

The individual was regularly exposed to infected livestock.

The person has since recovered and only had minor symptoms.

Officials say there have only been two other avian flu cases in the U.S. since 2022. One case was reported in Texas this year, while a case was reported in Colorado in 2022.
