First responders are preparing for challenges as a construction project is set to begin on US-131.
Staring on Sunday at 5 p.m., northbound US-131 will close at 28th Street for a month before work shifts to the southbound lanes for a month.
Grand Rapids Fire Department Captain Bill Smith says they have had regular meetings and communication with the Michigan Department of Transportation about the project which will set them up for success.
Smith says, if absolutely necessary they will be able to access 131, however they have alternative routes in place.
