A Grand Rapids man was convicted of second-degree murder on Thursday.
Neftali Hernandez opened fire on an older man during a confrontation in 2023 while making a 911 call.
Hernandez claims he shot Vasant Patel in self defense as he was being choked by the man.
Kent County jurors did not agree and returned guilty verdicts for the second-degree murder and felony firearm charges.
