GRAND RAPIDS (WOOD-AM) - U.S. 131 could be rebuilt from 28th to Cherry in Grand Rapids, but officials say the project would cost around $600 million.
The Michigan Department of Transportation and the city of Grand Rapids are partnering for the proposed project.
"Just to put into perspective for you, my entire 13-county region - the Grand Region - every year, we get about $100 million to do everything," MDOT spokesperson John Richard said.
U.S. 131 is Michigan's busiest freeway outside of Detroit. It sees around 120,000 vehicles a day.
