John Ball Zoo will release its latest generation of monarch butterflies this weekend.
Assistant manager of guest programs for the zoo Nick Milbratz says Monarch butterflies were added to the endangered species list as their population declines drastically.
The zoo is planning to release the butterflies on Saturday between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m.
Each butterfly will have a tag with a unique ID on it so visitors can track how far it makes it on its journey.
