The state of Michigan is approving a settlement that will allow Consumers Energy to raise its rate.
Consumers had initially requested a $212 million increase however the Michigan Public Service Commission is approving a $95 million increase.
The increase will help to pay for investments in technology, higher financing costs, operational efficiency and infrastructure improvements.
The increase goes into place on October 1.
The average resident using 100 centum cubic feet of natural gas can expect to see a $4.20 increase on their monthly bill.
