The city of Grand Rapids is no longer included in a civil lawsuit that was filed by the family of a man who was shot by a Grand Rapids police officer.
Judge Paul Maloney ruled on Monday that the family of Patrick Lyoya failed to demonstrate a link between racial discrimination by the city and former officer Christopher Schurr's actions.
The judge ruled that facts provided in the lawsuit supported allegations against Schurr.
