GRAND RAPIDS (WOOD-AM) - More than 18,000 "smart nodes" will soon be installed on top of streetlights in Grand Rapids.
The Canadian company Dimonoff produces the technology. Chief Executive Bernard Tetu says crews will be able to see a map that will show street light health.
"It looks a lot like a Google map dashboard, but you see all the little dots, which are streetlights and streetlight controllers." Tetu said. "With various colors and shapes, you will be presented with the areas where you have normal lighting (and) also problematic assets.”
Tetu says the system should reduce labor and energy costs. The installation project will start next year.
