Local health depts. finds positive traces of EEE in mosquitoes

BARRY CO. (WOOD-AM) - The Barry-Eaton District Health Department has confirmed positive tests of Eastern Equine Encephalitis (EEE) in mosquitoes that were collected from the area last week.

The Bay County state veterinarian also announced yesterday that mosquitoes have tested positive for the disease as well.

EEE symptoms include but is not limited to headaches, fever, chills, body aches and disorientation, with a 33% fatality rate in humans. Those most vulnerable to the disease are under 15 and above 50-years-old, although no human deaths related to the disease have been documented in the state of Michigan since 2020.
