Grand Rapids Public School officials say a César E. Chávez Elementary School student was found with an unloaded gun on Wednesday.
Principal Aimee Garcia says a student reported that another student had a gun to a staff member.
Officials were able to remove the child from classes and found the gun in a backpack in a locker.
The student did not make any threats or have any bullets.
The district is working with police to determine how the child got possession of the weapon.
