Mechanics are in high demand in West Michigan as the industry continues to face challenges.
The Grand Rapids Community College Auto Technology Program gets called and emails from dealerships and body shops all the time as they are looking for employees.
Brett Atchison, head of the GRCC auto tech program, says they are the biggest trainer for technicians in the area and almost everyone who completes the program finds a job.
Atchison says students have been told to go to college for decades but not enough emphasis has been put on the trades.
