Robots now cleaning Lake Michigan waters, beaches

MUSKEGON (WOOD-AM) - A pair of robots are now being used to rake trash out of the sand and water at Great Lakes beaches.

Professor Alan Steinman, who heads research at the Annis Water Resources Institute at Grand Valley State University, tells WOOD-TV it's a small step toward fighting the mircroplastic problem plaguing the lakes.

Steinman says fish who eat the particles can eventually starve to death.

"Bebot" and "Pixie" made their first public appearances yesterday at Pere Marquette Park.
