Grand Rapids approves gun buyback program

The city of Grand Rapids will hold its third gun buyback in the history of the city.

City Commissioners voted to approve $40,000 for the program on Tuesday.

The last buyback was held in the city in 2020.

1st Ward City Commissioner Jon O'Connor says the buyback took 300 guns off the street.

Individuals will receive $200 for assault rifles and semi-automatic handguns, $100 for shotguns, rifles and revolvers and $50 for black powder firearms.

The program has not yet been scheduled.
