Armed activists demand "re-arrest," firing of officer charged with murder

GRAND RAPIDS (WOOD-AM) - Activists demanding the "re-arrest" and firing of Grand Rapids police officer Christopher Schurr were at the home of city manager Mark Washington late Friday.

Washington said they made threatening remarks toward him using a bullhorn. He also said some people were armed with weapons.

“I did not engage with the individuals and have notified GRPD of the incident as some were armed with weapons.” Washington said in a statement.

It's not clear if any arrests were made.

NAACP Grand Rapids President Cle Jackson is asking people to protest peacefully.

Schurr is free on bond after it was set at $100,000 on Friday. He's scheduled to return to court later this month.
