Possible state film incentives discussed at town hall meeting

GRAND RAPIDS (WOOD-AM) - A town hall event was held yesterday at Lowing Studios in Plainfield Township to talk about a proposal that could create a new film tax credit in Michigan.

A similar incentive was eliminated in 2015.

Alexander Page, the legislative chairperson with the Michigan Film Industry Association, says the state isn't offering competitive benefits.

"We've got over 40 states and municipalities who are doing programs and we have over 90 countries that are doing incentives," Page told WOOD-TV. "In order to participate, you have to be able to have a competitive program that helps support Michigan jobs and Michigan companies."
