MOORLAND TOWNSHIP, Mich. -- In Muskegon County, Moorland Township planning commissioners will hold a public hearing Thursday night on a proposed ordinance pertaining to data centers and digital mining.
Township Supervisor Dan Nutt told WOOD Radio News in a phone interview the township board and planning commission have already passed some regulations on things like artificial intelligence and crypto currency.
He mentioned the township does not have the necessary public utilities in place that would attract a data developer, anyway.
"We have not had one person or any entity or businesses approach the township in any manner. This is just advice with legal counsel. And our planning commission and township board ... want to be proactive, and have something on the books," Nutt said.
The proposed ordinance would impose certain restrictions, should a company ever approach the township about building digital infrastructure.
The planning commission meeting with begin at 7 p.m. Thursday.
