Police from three agencies team up to execute a drug sting in Kentwood

KENTWOOD, Mich. -- A drug raid in Kentwood has rounded up several suspects and some guns.

The Kentwood and Walker police departments' Special Response Teams executed a search warrant around 8 o'clock Thursday morning on Division Avenue, a few blocks south of 54th Street.

Kent County Sheriff's deputies responded, as well.

According to the Kentwood P.D., nine suspects were detained. Four were arrested at the scene on outstanding warrants, and one person was arrested for possession with intent to deliver methamphetamine. Also, detectives will be asking the Kent County Prosecutor's Office to consider filing controlled substance charges against three more people.

Kentwood Police Captain Tim Wierenga told WOOD Radio News in a telephone interview they executed a search warrant in a large house, an RV and a garage.

"It worked out flawlessly, as far as we are concerned," Wierenga said. "We had to pivot a few times, but we were able to get everybody in custody. There were absolutely no injuries to any of our team members, the officers or the suspects ..."

Wierenga added that those involved were living in the house, the RV and the garage in the 5400 block of South Division Avenue.

"We also found a few handguns, and that investigation is ongoing. And there could be some potential charges that come from that, as well," he said.
