MSP: Wrong-way driver caused two crashes on US-131 in Grand Rapids

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- Michigan State Police say a driver caused two separate crashes on both sides of US-131 this morning in Grand Rapids.

The first occurred around 6:45 in the northbound lanes near Hall Street. Troopers say the 59-year-old man's silver Honda sideswiped a pickup truck, who was able to snap a photo of the vehicle's license plate before it took off.

About five minutes later, the same Honda was heading north in the southbound lanes near Market Street in the S-Curve when it hit a car head-on that was driven by a 24-year-old man.

Both drivers suffered lower body injuries and were taken to a hospital.

It took about two hours to reopen the southbound side of the freeway.

MSP says the investigation is ongoing.
