DETROIT, Mich. -- Former Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan has ended his run for governor.
He made the announcement today on his campaign website.
Duggan was running as an Independent. He says internal polling shows that anger over gas prices and the war with Iran has boosted support for Democrats, and that he has fallen 11 points behind Democratic candidate Jocelyn Benson.
A poll conducted for the Detroit Regional Chamber last week showed the Secretary of State with about 34-percent support compared to Duggan's 23-percent support among the 600 likely voters who were surveyed. Congressman John James had 29 percent support.
