One person arrested after fatal shooting south of Allegan

CHESHIRE TOWNSHIP, Mich. -- Allegan County Sheriff's detectives are investigating a fatal shooting Wednesday night as a homicide.

They say it happened at a home south of Allegan on Baseline Road, west of US-131. Deputies responded around 10 o'clock last night and, upon arrival, found a 52-year-old man dead. They say the caller was a 44-year-old woman, who was not injured.

Police have taken one person into custody, who was booked into the Allegan County Jail. Our partners at WOOD-TV have more details about who the suspect is.

There is no threat to the general public. The location is in Cheshire Township, near the Van Buren County line.

The ACSO said in a news release: "Additional Information will be released after arraignment on 4-24-26. The Allegan County Sheriff’s Office is being assisted in this investigation by the Allegan City Police Department, Michigan State Police, Bloomingdale Fire Department, Life EMS, Michigan State Police Crime Lab, and the Allegan County Medical Examiner’s Office."
