OTTAWA COUNTY, Mich. -- The Ottawa County Parks Department will celebrate Earth Day four days early this Saturday, Oct. 18, by holding cleanup events at some area parks.
Volunteers will be participating, as well, by helping to remove invasive plant species and litter. You can volunteer by showing up anytime between 10 a.m. and 12 p.m. Saturday to one of three parks: 1) The Blue Lake Boardwalk west entrance in Holland; 2) The Pigeon Creek Park south entrance in West Olive; 3) The Bend Area Open Space north entrance in Jenison.
"We do provide all the tools and training. So, it's easy to jump right in, and it's a really great way to give back and enjoy the outdoors," Ottawa County Parks Communications Specialist Rylie Dorman told WOOD Radio News in a telephone interview.
She said there usually is a very good community turnout.
"And we get other organizations involved and Boy Scout groups. So, it's just a really great day of giving back," Dorman said.
Registration is miOttawa.org/friends. It is encouraged and closes at 12 p.m. Friday.
