Killer Blues Headstone Project promises a 'killer' concert in Muskegon

MUSKEGON, Mich. -- A blues concert in downtown Muskegon on April 18 will benefit the Killer Blues Headstone Project.

The headliners are Demetria Taylor and the Mike Wheeler Band. Steve Salter is the president and founder of the Killer Blues Headstone Project, a nonprofit organization that raises funds to provide headstones for blues artists buried in unmarked graves.

"To date, we've place 178 headstones in 17 states," Salter told WOOD Radio News in a telephone interview.

He says the concert will be a "killer" event.

"I hark back to the old days when 'killer' meant the best, the pinnacle, the best stuff," Salter said. "Well, this is going to be the best concert Muskegon has seen in a long time."

The show will begin at 6 p.m. at the Fricano Events Center. General admission tickets are $25 in advance and $30 at the door. A limited number of reserved tables of 8, near the stage, are available for $350. You can purchase tickets online at Eventbrite.com by searching for Demetria Taylor. Or, you can visit the West Michigan Killer Blues Festival Facebook page and click on the ticket link.

Salter says they're also working with the West Michigan Blues Concert Committee to bring a major festival to Muskegon next summer.
