Consumers Energy and ITC to make electrical upgrades in Wayland on April 8

WAYLAND, Mich. -- Consumers Energy says overnight work will be done next week to upgrade some electrical equipment in the Wayland area.

The project will run from 11 p.m. Wednesday, April 8, to 7 a.m. the next morning. The utility company said it will temporarily impact about 3,300 customers in the area around U.S. 131, south of Wayland and north of 120th Avenue. The work will be done in conjunction with ITC Michigan, which is a Novi-based electricity transmission company.

Postcards have been mailed to affected customers in the area.

Consumers Energy provided more details in a news release:

“We know reliable electricity is essential to our customers, and outages are only scheduled when this critical work can’t be completed any other way,” said Steve Herrygers, senior executive director of high voltage distribution. “Our crews are coordinating closely with ITC to carry out these upgrades safely and efficiently, and we thank customers for their understanding as we work together to secure the electric grid.”

Postcards have been mailed to affected customers in the area. Customers are also encouraged to sign up for outage alerts at ConsumersEnergy.com/alerts to receive real‑time updates on their scheduled outage and any changes to the planned work.

Consumers Energy often schedules work like this overnight, when many people are asleep, to minimize disruptions to businesses or other activities. If work needs to be rescheduled, the backup date is Wednesday, April 15, from 11 p.m. to 7 a.m. the next day.
