Kentwood Police: Restaurant employee fired gunshots after teen pulled gun

KENTWOOD, Mich. -- Kentwood Police say a 17-year-old male is in intensive care at a hospital after a shooting Saturday night outside Dave & Buster's.

The location is at 3660 28th St. SE, near Lake Eastbrook Boulevard. It happened around 8:30 at the restaurant and sports bar.

Kentwood Police Captain Tim Wierenga told WOOD Radio News that police reviewed security footage, which shows that the teenager was allegedly pointing a gun at several people.

Police say a 22-year-old then drew his own pistol and fired at the 17-year-old.

"It sounds like there was a fight that broke out into the front parking lot area," he said. "During our investigation, we did conclude that a 17-year-old was shot by a 22-year-old male who was employed as a security guard at Dave & Buster's."

Wierenga said the 22-year-old employee has been cooperating with the police investigation. A 28-year-old man was arrested and booked into jail on a charge of carrying a concealed weapon. No names had been released at the time of this report.

Some witnesses say they heard about five gunshots. That has not been confirmed, but police said they did recover shell casings at the scene.
