GRPD takes suspect in fatal assault on city's northeast side into custody

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- The Grand Rapids Police say one man is dead and the other man who allegedly killed him Monday morning is in custody.

The assault occurred on Palmer Street near Center Avenue around 11 o'clock. That location is a couple blocks east of Monroe Avenue and one block south of Ann Street.

First responders applied first aid at the scene, but to no avail. He was declared dead at the scene. Police say the two men knew each other, but what led to the confrontation is still being investigated. Their names and ages have yet to be released.

Police said there was no ongoing threat to the neighborhood.
