U.S. Rep. Bill Huizenga supports U.S. actions against Iran; others weigh in

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Senior Trump Administration officials will provide classified briefings to Congress Tuesday on the U.S.-Israeli military operations against Iran.

Fourth District Republican Congressman Bill Huizenga called WOOD Radio News to give his thoughts on Operation Epic Fury. The United States and Israel have hit thousands of targets inside the Middle Eastern country and killed Iran's Supreme Leader over the weekend. Iran retaliated with attacks on Israel and U.S. military bases in the region, resulting in the deaths of six U.S. service members, as of the time of this report.

"I've said all along that sanctions are only as good as your willingness to enforce them," Huizenga said. "And what we saw under both the Biden Administration and Obama Administration was a lack of willingness to enforce the sanctions that they even helped put in place."

Palestine Solidarity Grand Rapids held an anti-war demonstration over the weekend at Rosa Parks Circle, claiming that the United States is escalating tensions in the Middle East.

"If they're protesting that Iran should continue to sponsor terrorism around the world, that seems very, very misguided," Huizenga said. "This was not done in haste. The President and his team have been trying to negotiate for months in earnest."

Huizenga added that Iran is the largest state sponsor of terrorism around the world.

"And it's about time that somebody take care of that."

WOOD Radio News placed a call to Third District Democratic Congresswoman Hillary Scholten's office seeking comment. If she calls, we will add her thoughts to this story.

Some Michigan lawmakers gave their thoughts earlier.
