Investigators say semi driver went through stop sign in fatal Blendon crash

BLENDON TOWNSHIP, Mich. -- Investigators in Ottawa County say two people were injured and one was killed in a two-vehicle crash aroun 5:15 Tuesday morning in Blendon Township.

Captain Jake Sparks tells WOOD Radio News a semi tanker truck failed to stop at a four-way stop and broadsided a pickup truck at Port Sheldon Street and 72nd Avenue.

A 54-year-old man from Butler, Kentucky was driving the semi tanker. Capt. Sparks says he was taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The pickup truck was driven by a 56-year-old Zeeland man who suffered critical injuries in the crash.

"The 59-year-old female passenger from the GMC Sierra did suffer fatal injuries from the crash at the scene," Sparks said. "And the other two are continuing to be treated at the hospital at this time.

No names had been released at the time this story was published mid-afternoon Tuesday. The intersection was closed until just before noon because of the police investigation.
