GRPD's Chief Winstrom selected as next police chief of Pensacola

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- Grand Rapids Police Chief Eric Winstrom has been selected as the next police chief of Pensacola, Florida.

Winstrom says he is honored to have served Grand Rapids over the last four years. He says they have made significant progress in strengthening trust, advancing constitutional policing, and ensuring that every resident feels safe.

"While I am excited for this next chapter in Pensacola, I will remain fully engaged here until my last day," says Winstrom. "We have important work ahead, and I will continue to give my full effort to support our officers and ensure a seamless handoff to the next administration."

City manager Mark Washington says they knew Winstrom was a top tier candidate when they hired him and are sad to see him leave but proud of the progress that has been made in the city.

"Chief Winstrom has made a strong impact on public safety and community relations," Washington says. "Our city is stronger because of his service, and we are well-positioned for the next chapter.

Washington says they will make an announcement on an interim chief as well as details on the hunt for the next chief in the coming days. Winstrom's last day has not been announced at his time.
