Investigation into fatal Greenville shooting results in arrest

GREENVILLE, Mich. -- The Greenville Department of Public Safety says it arrested a 67-year-old suspect moments after a shooting Sunday night.

DPS said the man was standing in the doorway of a home at 710 N. Burgess Street when first responders arrived on the scene around 9:30. That location is between Congress Street and Coffren Avenue.

Officers said they found the 62-year-old victim in his bedroom, treated him for a gunshot wound to the stomach and secured the weapon that used. The victim identified the man who was standing by the doorway as the one who shot him.

The victim was taken to Corewell Health-Greenville for emergency care, and then airlifted to a Grand Rapids hospital. Police say he later died.

Detectives are trying to determine the circumstances that led up to the shooting.

Police said the suspect was arrested and booked into the Montcalm County Jail on an open murder charge, pending arraignment. They said both men lived in the house where it happened.

The Michigan State Police Lakeview Post and Montcalm County EMS assisted at the scene.
